- W3162139981 abstract "Soil fertility capability classification for agricultural uses on sloping areas: a case study in Chiang Muan district, Phayao province aimed to study some physical and chemical properties of soil on sloping area and to assess soil fertility capability for soil management approach recommendations in this area. The study was conducted on seventy-eight representative sites of fourteen soil series including Phayao (Pao), Hang Chat (Hc), Mae Rim (Mr), Lom Kao (Lk), Nam Chun (Ncu), Kok Samrong (Ksr), Phon Ngam (Png), Phu Sana (Ps), Wang Saphung (Ws), Pong Tong (Po), Phaisali (Phi), Li, Nong Mot (Nm) and Bothai (Bo). The results revealed that the slope of the sampling sites ranges from 2-30 percent. The soils mostly were sandy loam, sandy clay loam, and loam and clay loam textures. These soils were extremely acid to strong alkaline (pH 4.3-8.5). Soil organic matter content of these soils ranged from very low to high (1.23-46.83 g kg-1). Available phosphorus and potassium were in a range of very low to very high, which are 0.53-195.43 mg kg-1 and 0.09-240.88 mg kg-1, respectively. The sum of extractable bases were ranging from very low to very high (0.46-35.91 cmol kg-1) which are mostly low. Cation exchange capacity varied from very low to high (0.46-24.14 cmol kg-1) and base saturation percentage also varied from low to high (13-99%). The soils were low to high soil fertility status. Fertility capability classification of these soils categorized to 23 units which are Cd, Cdk, Cdke, C’dke, Ld, L’’d, Ldk, L’’dk, L’’de, Ldke, L’dke, L’’dke, Ldake, L’dake, L’’dake, LCdke, LC’’dke, LC’dake, LS’’dke, S’dke, SL’d and SC’’dke. Recommended soil management approaches for increasing productivity and maintaining soil quality in this region should use organic matter management such as mulching or organic fertilizer incorporating with chemical fertilizers, together with soil and water conservation especially in the area of FCC unit with contrasting soil texture between topsoil and subsoil." @default.
