- W3163148668 abstract "The demand for copper and other base metal production continues to increase, as does the pressure on mining operations to become more sustainable as well as water and energy efficient. The development of technologies for processing coarse particles by flotation has been highlighted as one of the foremost areas where significant improvements in mine operational efficiency are possible. Technological developments aimed at improving coarse particle flotation such as the HydroFloat™ technology have been around for many years. A number of standalone research initiatives on this technology have taken place around the world. However, much research is still needed to address the implementation challenges of this technology in full scale industrial circuits. Such research would be of great benefit to a wide array of end-users, from large metal producers, to smaller players, to mining service providers. For this reason, the SMI-JKMRC has been working on the formation of a Collaborative Consortium for Coarse Particle Processing Research (CPR) to help co-ordinate and align research efforts aimed at producing practical and applied solutions to industrial issues surrounding coarse particle processing in general, and those of the HydroFloat™ technology in particular. Conducting research within a co-ordinated collaborative consortium has many benefits, including: avoidance of duplication of effort, leverage of expertise among multiple groups, and make more efficient use of technical and financial resources. It also allows the flexibility to meet the specific research requirements of individual mining operations. This paper will outline both the great benefits and significant challenges of initiating and implementing an international collaborative centre and share what we have learned on this journey." @default.
