- W317014729 abstract "This study was conducted in research station of Eastern Anatolia Agricultural Research Institute, (EAARI) in Erzurum, Turkiye under rainfed conditions between 1998 and 2000 for three years. The aim of the study was to determine the effects of mixture rate, sowing and cutting times on hay quality. The study was conducted in randomized blocks design in split plots with three replications. In the study, Hungarian (Vicia pannonica Crantz.) and hairy vetch (Vicia villosa Roth.) were sown with bread wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) at four different mixture rates (100:0, 90:10, 80:20 and 70:30) as winter and spring sown. The mixtures were cut at the flowering and milk-dough stages of wheat. Leaf/stem ratio (LSR), crude protein rate (CPR), crude protein yield (CPY), crude cellulose rate (CCR) and crude ash rate (CAR) were examined. According to the results, LSR were found lower in winter sown mixtures while Hungarian vetch+wheat mixtures yielded higher LSR. Pure sown vetches yielded lowest CPY but highest LSR and CPR which decreased by increasing rates of wheat in mixtures. CPY was found higher in winter sown mixtures (640.3 kg/ha) while no difference was observed between Hungarian vetch+wheat and hairy vetch+wheat mixtures. On the other hand, CPR was lower in winter sown mixtures. The 70:30 mixture rate yielded the lowest CPR but the highest CPY. Both of the two winter sown vetch+wheat mixtures yielded more quality hay. In conclusion, 70:30 vetch-wheat mixture and milkdough stage cuttings were suggested." @default.
