- W3174640070 abstract "A geological terrane is commonly composed of a crystalline base and an overlying cap. The sedimentary cap often has high potential for hydrothermal resources. This study investigates a sedimentary cap that contains 31 rock formations in Yangtze Block (YB). The hydrothermal potential is assessed by considering the tectonics, strata sequence, material properties and geothermal conditions. Two hydrothermal categories including the low-strain-strata aquifer-hydrothermal system and the high-strain-strata fault-hydrothermal system are classified. In the low-strain strata, the hydrothermal resources show an even potential geospatially and the deeply buried carbonate and sandstone strata are expected to be with high potential. In the high-strain strata, the potential hydrothermal resources are spatially close to faults because the hydro-system was dominated by the faults. Taking two stratum in the low-stain strata for example, the estimated exploitable hydrothermal potential for Maokou carbonate formation in Sichuan basin was 4.38 × 1014-9.34 × 1014 kJ/a and for Cretaceous sandstone layers in Jianghan basin was 2.93 × 1014-5.85 × 1014 kJ/a, both are comparable to the literature data. The specific analyses show that a hydrothermal reservoir was formed by fractured sandstone, carbonates or their combination with thinly impermeable layers. Claystone, siltstone, shale or their combinations form commonly the reservoir cap." @default.
