- W3176073170 abstract "Organic micropollutants are a major concern for groundwater pollution. Pesticides, pharmaceuticals, personal care products, artificial sweeteners, surfactants, per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, phthalates, hormones, estrogens, and some industrial chemicals are the main organic micropollutants. These compounds are ubiquitously present in surface waters and have infiltrated the groundwater sources too. Several micropollutants have been reported in Indian groundwaters so far. Pesticides are the most common organic micropollutants reported in Indian groundwaters, followed by pharmaceuticals. Organic micropollutants are generally present in ng/L to μg/L concentration, with concentrations reaching up to mg/L in some cases. Dibutyl phthalate (44 160–2 07 781 ng/L) is the highest reported micropollutants in the groundwater sources of Mysore, India. Diclofenac (48 080 ng/L in SAS Nagar Punjab) and sulfanilamide (>1000 ng/L in Varanasi) are the highest reported concentrations of pharmaceuticals. Simazine (40 000 ng/L), profenophos (39 900 ng/L) in the groundwater sources of Delhi, chlorpyriphos (41 200 ng/L) and malathions (82 300 ng/L) in Prabhani, Maharashtra, are the highest reported concentrations of pesticides. Correlations between the presence of organic micropollutants in surface and groundwater is clearly observed. Presently the focus of research on micropollutants, except pesticides, is very limited, indicating the need for progress in this area, particularly targeting the Indian scenario." @default.
