- W3176171958 abstract "Globally, cancer is the one of the main diseases that lead to death, with an emerging new case being reported annually. The exalted rate of mortality demands a global challenge to explore new sources of anticancer metabolites. The latest advancement for the treatment of cancer involves biodiscovery and development of novel and potent chemotherapeutic agents associated with a natural or synthetic resource. Natural sources provide a great opportunity to discover novel biomolecules with unique bioactivities in cancer therapy. Microbe-derived metabolites have played a significant role in the discovery and development of many clinically applied anticancer metabolites. Fungal endophytes represent a potent source of cytotoxic metabolites that can be manipulated to acquire desirable new analogs for chemotherapy. This chapter deals with anticancer metabolites derived from endophytic fungi and adds an integrative account of clinically useful anticancer compounds like camptothecin, taxol, vinca, alkaloids, and podophyllotoxin. Indeed, recent studies on endophytic fungal bioactive metabolites from different sources as potent anticancer drugs and compounds tested against specific cancer cell lines were included. The chapter provides a direction in fungal endophytes research with integrated information on anticancer compounds." @default.
