- W3176620099 abstract "Parasites and their hosts form an integrated system with the parasites life cycle being based on maintaining transmission. Any changes within this system are most likely to influence the transmission potential. Species specific parasites in endangered animals will die out with these hosts. Parasites whose host population benefits from environmental changes, such as generalist and synanthropic species, will have transmission advantages due to the increased frequency with which they encounter suitable hosts. Increasing urbanization suggests that synanthropic hosts for parasites affecting humans will increase in prevalence unless suitable changes in pest control and hygiene are implemented, especially in tropical countries. In contrast, parasites of wild animals will become less frequent as their environment is disturbed or destroyed.KeywordsParasitesHostsEcologyDistributionPopulation ecology" @default.
