- W3177417351 abstract "The main aim was to examine the effects of a physical education-based reinforced program through outdoor physical activities and body expression on cardiorespiratory fitness in secondary students. A secondary aim was to analyze the physical activity levels during the physical education-based development and reinforced programs. A sample of 92 secondary students (Mage 12.4 ± 0.7 years), from five classes, were cluster-randomly assigned into 3 groups: an experimental group without a reinforced program of physical activities [non-reinforced group (NRG)], an experimental group with a reinforced program [reinforced group (RG)], and a control group (CG). The NRG and RG students performed a physical fitness development program twice a week for nine weeks. Then, the RG completed a reinforced program through outdoor physical activities and body expression twice a week for six weeks. Students’ cardiorespiratory fitness was measured at the beginning and at the end of the development program, as well as at the end of the reinforced program. Physical activity levels were measured objectively through a heart rate monitor and subjectively by a self-reported scale during physical education sessions. The results of the mixed two-way [3 × 3; group (NRG, RG, CG) × time (pre-intervention, post-intervention and post-maintenance)] analysis of covariance [performance (s): F = 11.926, P < 0.001, η2p = 0.215, d = 1.23; VO2max (mL/kg/min): F = 9.962, P < 0.001, η2p = 0.186; d = 1.09], followed by the pairwise comparisons with the Bonferroni adjustment, showed that the RG students maintained their cardiorespiratory fitness levels through reinforced program of outdoor physical activities and body expression (P < 0.001; d = 0.58–0.67). Additionally, both NRG and RG had higher physical activity levels than the control group during the development program (P < 0.05; d = 0.81–3.16). Moreover, the RG had higher physical activity levels after the reinforced program (i.e., maintenance) than the control group and non-reinforced group (P < 0.01; d = 0.71–2.04). A reinforced program of nine weeks (initial development) and six weeks (maintenance thorough other physical education contents) allowed teachers to increase and maintain students’ cardiorespiratory fitness levels and to develop other curricular contents at the same time. Le but principal était d’examiner les effets d’un programme d’éducation physique renforcé par des activités physiques de plein air et d’expression corporelle sur la capacité cardiorespiratoire d’élèves de l’école secondaire. Un objectif secondaire était d’évaluer les niveaux d’activité physique après les programmes d’éducation physique de développement et de maintien. Un échantillon de 92 élèves de l’école secondaire (âge moyen = 12,4 ± 0,7 ans), de cinq classes, a été subdivisé d’une façon aléatoire en 3 groupes : un groupe expérimental, sans programme renforcé d’activités physiques (groupe non renforcé [GNR]), un groupe expérimental, avec programme renforcé (groupe renforcé [GR]) et un groupe contrôle (GC). Les étudiants du GNR et GR ont suivi un programme de développement de la condition physique deux fois par semaine pendant neuf semaines. Ensuite, le GR a complété un programme renforcé d’activités physiques de plein air et d’expression corporelle deux fois par semaine pendant six semaines. La capacité cardiorespiratoire des étudiants a été mesurée au début et à la fin du programme de développement, ainsi qu’à la fin du programme renforcé. Les niveaux d’activité physique ont été mesurés objectivement à l’aide d’un moniteur de fréquence cardiaque et subjectivement par une échelle de perception de l’effort pendant les séances d’éducation physique. Les résultats de l’analyse bidirectionnelle mixte [3 × 3 ; group (NRG, RG, CG) × time (pré-intervention, post-intervention et post-maintenance)] de la covariance (performance (s) : F = 11,926, p < 0,001, η2p = 0,215, d = 1,23 ; VO2max (mL/kg/min) : F = 9,962, p < 0,001, η2p = 0,186 ; d = 1,09), suivie des comparaisons par paires avec l’ajustement de Bonferroni, ont montré que les élèves du GR maintenaient leurs niveaux de capacité cardiorespiratoire grâce au programme renforcé d’activités physiques de plein air et d’expression corporelle (p < 0,001 ; d = 0,58–0,67). En plus, les niveaux d’activité physique du GNR et du GR étaient plus élevés que le GC pendant le programme de développement (p < 0,05 ; d = 0,81–3,16). En outre, le GR avait des niveaux d’activité physique plus élevés après le programme renforcé (c.-à-d., entretien) que le GC et le GNR (p < 0,01 ; d = 0,71–2,04).
