- W3179769265 abstract "Cancer is one of the most prevalent diseases in the world. The current drugs available for the therapeutic management of cancer are associated with significant adverse effects like alopecia, anemia, immunodeficiency, fatigue, peripheral neuropathy, fertility issues, and neurological problems. Polysaccharides have emerged as potential agent exhibiting good anticancer activity across a variety of cancer cell lines. They can be developed as alternatives of existing cancer chemotherapeutic agents, possessing selective activity against tumor cells with minimal toxic side effects. Polysaccharides isolated from plants, fungi, microorganisms, and marine sources have been reported to act on malignant cells. They kill cancer cells and prevent metastasis via different mechanisms such as immunomodulation, reactive oxygen species, cell cycle arrest, disruption of mitochondrial membrane, and nitric oxide production. This chapter focuses on polysaccharides and their anticancer activities." @default.
