- W3182104103 abstract "Abstract According to a World Health Organization report, there are 285 million visually impaired people worldwide. Among these individuals, 39 million were blind. In India, there are around 12 million blind people out of that 39 million, making it the home to one-third of the world’s blind population. There have been several devices designed to support visually impaired people and to improve the quality of their lives. Unfortunately, most of these devices are limited in their capabilities. Normally the blind face difficulties in recognizing traffic signals in crowded roads, thereby making it practically impossible to cross roads without help. This work focusses on aiding them to recognize traffic signals and maneuver around without help using LabVIEW. The system uses a web camera to capture the images of the text and the image taken is processed for pattern recognition. This is matched to the template stored and converted to audio output. The output can be heard by earphones. This enables the person to know what color is being displayed in the traffic lights. Thereby, this system helps the blind read the traffic signals and act accordingly." @default.
