- W3182123291 abstract "heat vernalization - a requirement of exposure to low temperatures to induce floral setting - can affect growth, development and yield components of wheat. To evaluate the effect of vemalization cte. yield, an experiment was carried out in Passo Fundo, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil (28° 15' S, 52° 24'W and 687 m altitude). The wheat cultivars BR 35, Embrapa 16, Embrapa 40 and Embrapa 49 were used. The wheat was sowed in June 26, July 29 and August 26 of 1996. The experimental design was a complete randomized bleck with four replications. For the vemalization process the seeds were exposed to temperature of 0° C in a cool chamber for 27-30 days. Artificial vernalization did not affect yield (alfa=0,05). However, yield components such as test weight, thousand kemels weight, number of kernels/m 2 and harvest index were incrcased with vemalization. The interaction vemalization x sowing date x cultivar was signi ficant. Thc whcat cultivar Embrapa 16 was the most responsive to vemalization." @default.
