- W3182919522 abstract "The researchers employed desk research approach and descriptive research design method to gather political rhetoric used by the two dominant political parties in Nigeria- Peoples? Democratic Party (PDP) and All Progrssives Congress (APC) between 2015 and 2019 general elections. Data were gathered from purposively select three newspapers in Nigeria and other secondary data, particularly excerpts or political campaign speeches randomly selected. The speeches were thematised into persuasive propaganda, legitimation, code mixing and repetitions as identified rhetoric strategies deployed during political campaigns. The findings showed that the credibility and performance of each political party and not political rhetoric are the potent strategies of winning the heart of the electorate. It was, therefore, recommended, among others that politicians should be more politically conscious and sincere about the issues of nation building and sustainable development instead of relying on the power of rhetoric." @default.
