- W3187319022 abstract "Moving on from a more general labour force the critique of neoliberalist devaluing and disempowerment, and its socially negative consequences for the disaffected and dispossessed that runs throughout the book so far, this chapter has two purposes. First is to reveal how the application of new AI technologies can both advance and ambush neoliberal market primacies, depending on the priorities which are fed into machine driven learning and application design. The special focus for Ai applications is on market forces for information empowerment/disempowerment. Second is a more contentious and speculative line of thinking. Global crises more often than not promote international engagement. True it is that in the early reactions to the COVID-19 threat, parochial, state interests stood in the way of any genuinely integrated and global response about which the UN Secretary General was scathing. But as the search for a vaccine intensified, and the realisation that economic recession could be a global reality sunk in, trans-national engagement at least has come to the fore. Realising state-centred protectionism is exacerbating both negative health and economic consequences, it is now more possible that a changed world of labour relations which cannot carelessly realise profit without social sustainability and human capital consideration could eventuate in new forms of labour valuing, even if this is not achieved in a pre-virus vocabulary. Law would likely have a role in ensuring this shift from commodification to the market/social, in the face of neoliberal opportunism and regression (as Polanyi would wish)." @default.
