- W3190232810 abstract "It is now clearly revealed that cell death is a crucial physiological process to remove impaired cells, and mitochondria are cell survival controllers. Mitochondria contribute to death pathways and play a vital role in either apoptosis or the nonprogrammed death process. A variety of signals promote stress and affect mitochondrial permeability. The consequence is the release of particular proteins and enzymes with an essential role in death pathways. There is compelling evidence on mitochondrial dysfunction’s association with various pathological states and diseases. Brain, heart, and muscles have been noted as the most affected organs when mitochondrial dysfunction occurs. Due to these organs’ high energy demand, several pathological conditions are linked to mitochondrial impaired performance, including cancers, obesity, neurodegenerative diseases, cardiomyopathies, and ischemia–reperfusion injuries of the heart and brain. Therefore, knowing each pathway’s exact critical players and their regulatory forces might promise new therapeutic opportunities." @default.
