- W3190254939 abstract "Herein, we demonstrate how social network analysis can model potential pathways for corporatization in US higher education by tracing the career histories of presidents (n = 215) from a heterogeneous sample of US colleges and universities. We examine the connections among sectors of higher education in this sample and external organizations like corporations and government agencies in order to describe larger network patterns created by presidents’ career paths. We find two different network typologies between not-for-profit and for-profit universities; corporations and government agencies are present in both. Seven times more corporations than baccalaureate colleges are found in the network. Just half (54%) of university presidents began their careers in a tenure track position suggesting diverse career pathways are common." @default.
