- W3190986397 abstract "Introduction: We can come across many parameters mentioned in a literature as risk factors suicidality in schizophrenia spectrum disorders. Some of them are usually recognized by routine psychiatric records. Considering the fact that suicidality rate is much higher at patients suffering from one of the schizophrenia spectrum disorders then in general population it was important to investigate risk factors in order to control and predict the illness. Aim: To identify the association between gender, age, education, employment, marital status, disorder type, illness duration, compliance with treatment, heredity, substance misuse and behavior prone to suicidality in patients with schizophrenia spectrum disorders. Method: Retrospective comparative analysis included 220 patients’ medical records. Patients were treated during 2004. and 2005. at Institute of Psychiatry, Clinical Center of Serbia, Belgrade, diagnosed as (ICD X): schizophrenia, F 20; schizotypal disorder, F 21; acute psychotic episode, F23 and schizoaffective disorder, F25. Patients were included into two groups: currently, with present or life-time suicidality (S1) and with no present or life-time suicidality (S0). Results: Non of the tested socio-demographic risk factors showed any statisticaly significant distribution difference among the two groups: gender (p=0,35), age (p=0.59), education (p=0.54), employment (p=0.71), marital status (p=0.07). Clinical parameters showed the same outcome: type of disorder (p=0.36), illness duration (p=0.27), treatment compliance (p=0.20), heredity (p=0.68), substance misuse (p=0.80). Conclusion: Relying on factors mentioned above is not recommended in the assessment of suicidality in schizophrenia spectrum disorders. Direct evaluation of suicidality in schizophrenia spectrum disorders is preferable, since indirect methods based on variety of socio-demographic and clinical parameters, are of minor importance." @default.
