- W3192663071 abstract "Aiming to minimize the issues associated with the disposal of polymers, in this work polyurethanes foams (PUF) scraps were recycled using dicarboxylic acids (DA). Different types of PUF were tested, being the reaction between PUF scraps with the DA monitored using spectroscopy analysis. The obtained hydroxyl number and acid value of the recycled polyol (RP) were suitable to produce new polyurethanes (PU), therefore, it was used to produce wood PU coatings (PUC). Analyzing the surface properties of the coatings, it was observed that the coating derived from RP presents higher hardness, lower gloss and its more hydrophobic than the conventional polyol derived coating. These results can be associated with the aromatic moieties presents in the RP, which results as well in stiffer and more thermal stable coatings. From the results, the suitability of this recycling method of PUF and its subsequently use in the production of PUC was demonstrated. • A method for the recycling of polyurethane (PU) wastes, acidolysis, is presented. • The recycled polyol (RP) was used in the production of PU coatings. • The coating derived from RP presents high hardness and high hydrophobicity. • The presence of aromatic moieties thus stiffer and more thermal stable coatings." @default.
