This is a very interesting suggestion as we do agree that reliable prediction of a good outcome can also be important. However, our data did not allow such an analysis. The data we used were collected in daily clinical care, in which a SSEP was recorded in patients who did not regain consciousness after clearance of sedative mediation. Therefore, the number of patients with a good outcome is very low. To investigate the value of a high amplitude SSEP for prediction of good outcome, a SSEP registration early after admission, ideally between 12–24 h, should be performed. Furthermore, we agree that a standardized method of amplitude assessment is needed before this parameter can be incorporated in (inter)national recommendations for prognostication. As different methods were described, we decided to compare all methods reported in our study. The N20/P25 method currently seems to be the best option. This method is also supported by the results of the Italian study by Scarpino.1.Scarpino M. Lolli F.
