- W3194638855 abstract "Abstract Anthropogenic aerosols increased dramatically in the past century, and are an important radiative forcing for regional climate change. Observations show that South Asia underwent a widespread drying trend during summertime in the second half of the twentieth century, which can be attributed mainly to human-influenced aerosol emissions. Recent studies revealed a range of causations of the weakened South Asian summer monsoon (SASM), often associated with the increase of anthropogenic aerosols. Due to their complex interactions with climate system, conflicting views exist regarding how the anthropogenic aerosols regulate the SASM response dynamically. Climate model results indicate that both the direct atmospheric response to radiative forcing and the coupled ocean-atmosphere interaction contribute to the aerosol-induced SASM response. Model biases and intermodel variability remain major challenges for reducing uncertainties in understanding SASM change. Besides, evaluating the effect of internal variability and isolating the forced SASM response to aerosol forcing call for future investigations." @default.
