Silk is a green material that has been extensively explored for its use in functional electronics due to its tunable biodegradability and flexibility. Nevertheless, an intriguing property of Silk is its innate piezoelectricity. This review highlights the importance of crystal orientation and structure of Silk Fibroin to display piezoelectric response and documents possible strategies for its enhancement. It also provides insight into the possibility of using piezoelectric Silk as a piezoelectric sensor, actuator, and energy harvester to form self-powered hybrid systems for autonomous bioelectronics." @default.
