- W3195328209 abstract "In order to evaluate the effect of diets including high levels of tomato pomace on the productive performance of steer, a research was carried out at La Rinconada Experimental Station depending of the Animal Production Department of the Faculty of Agrarian and Forest Sciences of the University of Chile. Twenty four Hereford steers 207 kg liveweight were randomly allotted into 4 groups and fed which four different levels of tomato pomace (T1 = 20%, T2 = 40%, T3 = 60% and T4 = 80%) during 153 days. The basal diet consisted of alfalfa hay (78%) rape seed oil meal (5%) wheat straw (15%) and salt + Calcium phosphate (2%). Urea was added to make diets isonitrogenous. It was measured the daily intake of TB and BD and animals were weighed every 28 days. Average dry matter intake was significantly adjusted to the regression: Y = 704-0.038 X (R2 = 0.96). Differences in dry matter intake produce differences in liveweight gain, demonstrating treatments 3 and 4 significantly lower gains than T1 and T2. When liveweight gains and levels of inclusion were correlated it was obtained the equation Y = 0.756 - 0.038 X (R2 0.95). Feed efficiency showed no relationship with inclusion levels, fluctuating between 10,4 and 12,3 kg (DM consumed/kg liveweight). It may be concluded that including more than 40% of tomato pomacea in the steer diet depresses intake and liveweight gains." @default.
