- W3196298411 abstract "Abstract The goal of this chapter was to investigate the specific characterization tools mostly used in the field of hybrid materials based on cellulose nanocrystals/nanofibrils and nanoparticles. These new materials have attracted a great deal of attention in recent years and this interest is directly related to the unique properties of cellulose which is considered as an innovative biopolymer isolated from different natural sources mainly wood, plants, cotton, algae, and microorganisms. Due to its excellent characteristics such as biodegradability, biocompatibility, low toxicity, and low cost, this biopolymer was found to be useful in several functional applications, especially in the manufacturing of a new generation of composite, nanocomposite, and biocomposite hybrid materials via different synthesis routes, various nanofillers, as well as for diverse applications. Once these hybrid materials have been prepared, several characterization techniques have been used to determine their chemical structure and morphological behavior, as well as thermal and mechanical properties. In this chapter, a focus is made on the main characterization tools widely used for hybrid materials based on cellulose and its derivatives. Among these techniques, FTIR, UV-Vis, NMR, Raman, XRD, and morphology (SEM, TEM, and AFM) will be discussed, as well as DMA, thermal, and mechanical properties." @default.
