The extent to which the lecturers and students of Yoruba Language in Osun State colleges of education made use of mobile technology for teaching and learning was also examined. The study further compared the extent of use of mobile technology by the male students of Yoruba Language in the colleges with that of the female students, and determined the problems encountered by the lecturers and students in the use of mobile technology for Yoruba Language teaching and learning in the study area. These were with a view to providing information on the extent of use of mobile technology for the teaching and learning of Yoruba Language in Osun State colleges of education. The study employed the descriptive survey research design. The population consisted of all the 12 lecturers and 279 students of Yoruba Language in Osun State Colleges of Education, Ila-Orangun and Ilesa. As a result of the small size of the population, total enumeration sampling was used for the study. Two self-designed instruments titled Application of Mobile Technology to Yoruba Language Teaching (AMTYLT) and Application of Mobile Technology to Yoruba Language Learning (AMTYLL) were used for data gathering. Application of Mobile Technology to Yoruba Language Teaching gathered information on the kind of mobile devices used by the lecturers of Yoruba Language in the colleges; the extent of use of mobile technology and the problems encountered in their usage. Application of Mobile Technology to Yoruba Language Learning, on the other hand, elicited information on the kind of mobile devices used by the students of Yoruba Language in the colleges; the extent of use of mobile technology; and the problems encountered in their usage. Data were analysed using frequency counts, mean, standard deviation, and t-test.The results showed that 100.0% of the lecturers had smartphones, 80.0% had notebooks and 30.0% had cellphones while 68.6% of the students had smartphones, 24.9% had tablets, 3.9% had cellphones, 0.3% had palmtop, 1.7% had notebooks, 0.3% had netbook, and 0.3% had ipod. This meant that among all the abundance of mobile devices, smartphones were the most widely used among the lecturers and students of Yoruba Language in Osun State colleges of education. The results also showed that Yoruba Language lecturers in the colleges used mobile technology very often for teaching (mean = 3.8, standard deviation = 2.04) while the students of Yoruba Language used mobile technology often for learning (mean = 3.2, standard deviation = 13.95). Also, sex had no significant difference on the extent of use of mobile technology for learning at (t = 0.28, df = 248). The problems encountered by the lecturers and students of Yoruba Language in the use of mobile technology were limited Yoruba Language resources (lecturers = 70.0%, students = 76.8%); need for translation into Yoruba Language (lecturers = 80.0%, students = 80.0%); incorrect automatic translations of translation apps (lecturers = 70.0%, students = 77.2%); erratic power supply (lecturers = 70.0%, students = 73.1%); slow internet connection (lecturers = 80.0%, students = 74.5%) and low technical know-how (lecturers = 80.0%, students = 76.9%). The study concluded that Yoruba Language lecturers used mobile technology very often for teaching while students used it often for learning in Osun State colleges of education." @default.
