The retailer is under pressure to re-engineer the delivery business models that address customer’s expectation for faster, low-cost, availability and contactless delivery. The existing delivery model lacks end-to-end connectivity, leading to inefficiency specifically in the urban last-mile delivery. Lack of end-to-end connectivity in the last-mile delivery leads to delayed delivery, lack of transparency, erroneous delivery, accidents, and poor performance. Delivery operator (driver) is the primary link in the highly responsive last-mile delivery. To enhance the performance, it is imperative to monitor and control the driver’s behaviour to stop many road accidents. Application of artificial intelligence (AI) will play a crucial role in enhancing the last-mile delivery and customer experience. Through the advanced driver assistance system (ADAS), AI addresses the safety issue involving an algorithm to predict operator’s behaviour. The Chapter proposes a real-time alert system based on artificial intelligence, which will provide a smart solution incorporating the delivery operator’s behaviour such as driving pattern, fatigue check, eye blink, braking and curved angles and other road conditions alert notification on a real-time basis. The system will collect locational data via GPS (Global Positioning System) and generate real-time information on driver performance, assessed through mobile phone. The aim is to evaluate drivers’ behavioural patterns in terms of safe and economical driving and provide the driver with feedback and tips to improve. In the last-mile delivery, operator’s behaviour managed through this smart solution will help avoid accidents, streamline the processes and ultimately improve the customer experience for the timely delivery of the product based in UAE." @default.
