- W3198612953 abstract "Abstract Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) has a significant impact on the quality of life of affected patients as it often leads to debilitating lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS). While pharmacologic and surgical interventions are the mainstays of treatment, a growing body of literature supports the impact of diet on BPH/LUTS. Prostatic inflammation appears to play an important role in the development of BPH, and dietary approaches aiming to decrease the inflammatory response have increasingly been utilized for treatment. Similarly, metabolic syndrome has been a target of therapeutic strategies, as evidence supports the notion that BPH/LUTS may be influenced by systemic changes associated with metabolic syndrome. Additionally, associations between certain food types and symptoms have been suggested and are a possible emerging therapeutic strategy. It is likely an interplay of various dietary factors that plays a role in the development and progression of LUTS/BPH, and this chapter explores this interconnected web." @default.
