- W319966869 abstract "For the clarification of the mechanism of progressive change in the components of F.C., its change in acidity was examined by determination of the consumption of the consumption of alkali, 0.01N-NaOH. In parallel with it, the chemical analysis of the components of F.C. was made. Formaldehyde, cresol, and formic acid were subjected to the quantitative analysis. Formaldehyde was estimated by colorimetric determination with chromotropic acid. Cresol was determined by its absorption of the ultra-violet at 290nm. Formic acid was separated from F.C. as sodium salt to be reduced to formaldehyde which was capable of being estimated. Fresh F.C. was devided into 9 groups which were stored under the respective conditions as follows ; A) Al group and A2 group : F.C. was contained in a brown-colored glass vial for dental use. Al group was kept standing. The vials of A2 group were turned upside down 20 times and were kept unlidded for 4 hours every day. B) B1 group, B2 group and B3 group : F.C. was sealed in a brown-colored ampoule and kept in the dark. B1 group was kept standing at 5℃, B2 group at room temperature and B3 group at 37℃. C) C1 group, C2 group, C3 group and C4 group : C1 group and C3 group were stored in the transparent glass ampoules, C2 group and C4 group in the brown-colored one. The ampoules of C1 group and C2 group were sealed. Those of C3 group and C4 group were not sealed but put each in a transparent glass container with airtight lid on. All of these groups were kept standing under the direct sunlight. Following conclusions were obtained. : 1) When F.C. is sealed in an ampoule, formaldehyde in it shows a tendency to decrease, and alkali consumption increases gradually. 2) When F.C. is stored in an unsealed container, for instance an airtight container like a lidded vial, the concentration of formaldehyde increases temporarily to a peak and then decreases very rapidly. Alkali consumption increases more noticeably. 3) Cresol concentration rises gradually when F.C. is kept in an airtight container. When F.C. is kept sealed in an ampoule, it is found that there is no appreciable change to be noticed in the cresol content from the start until the end of the experiment. No relation between the cresol content and alkali consumption can be found. 4) It is proved that the concentration of formic acid increases temporarily and then decreases gradually, when F.C. is sealed in a transparent ampoule. Alkali consumption varies in accordance with the concentration of formic acids. 5) It can be seen that the range of changes of ingredient contents is evidently reduced when F.C. is sealed in such a shielded container as a brown-colored ampoule." @default.
