- W3200129735 abstract "Tibial plateau leveling osteotomy (TPLO) was first described by B. Slocum in 1983 as a modification of the cranial closing wedge osteotomy, and the theory behind the procedure has since been further evaluated in numerous cadaveric studies. Incisional complications, tibial tuberosity fractures, and implant failure were the most commonly reported complications after TPLO surgery. High-quality, well-positioned mediolateral and craniocaudal radiographs are necessary for thorough surgical planning. The osteotomy should be assessed to ensure the proximal and distal segments are adequately apposed after the rotation is achieved as well as once the plate is placed over the bone. Trochlear block/wedge recession and soft tissue reconstruction are straightforward ancillary procedures that may be performed without risk to the tibial osteotomy site. The use of a gauze sponge is recommended in order to protect the soft tissue envelope while the osteotomy is perform." @default.
