- W3200182012 abstract "• The overview of the air-liquid suction flow in sudden expansion micro-channel from the gap field was presented. • Two different flow regimes were identified and their evolution processes were discussed. • The flow regime after the expansion is related to that in the micro-channel. • The cycle of flow regime after expansion corresponds to the pressure fluctuation cycle. • The wall shear stress imposed on the liquid changes two-phase proportion of suction flow. Two-phase flow in sudden expansion micro-channel is widely encountered in typical industrial applications. Owing to the particularity of the two-phase mixing mode, the complex characteristics of gas-liquid mixed suction flow with the sudden change of the cross-sectional area need to be thoroughly investigated. This paper describes an experimental study of the air-liquid mixed suction flow in sudden expansion micro-channel which consisted of two interconnected parts—a micro-channel and a rectangle channel. The liquid was constrained in a 0.5 mm gap and experiments were carried out with different suction pressures, liquid flow rates, and reciprocating scanning motions to mimic the working conditions in immersion system. Different flow regimes in the micro-channel were observed, i.e., bubbly/slug flow and annular flow. Time variations of flow pressure fluctuation in the rectangle channel were also measured to investigate the relationship between flow regime and pressure fluctuation. The bubble/slug flow produces bubble detachment in the immediate vicinity of the expansion nozzle, while the annular flow turns into slug flow after the abrupt area changes. The results indicated that the cycle of flow regime after the expansion nozzle corresponded to the pressure fluctuation cycle. Besides, by comparing the flow characteristics with and without reciprocating scanning motion, we found that the alternating process of acceleration and impediment of the liquid phase tends to induce a higher fluctuation value on the pressure." @default.
