- W3200340431 abstract "One of the underlying mechanisms of sperm cell DNA damage is oxidative stress. People with overweight or obese tend to have high oxidative stress in plasma and urine. Due to this reason, this study was aimed to investigate the association between body mass index and DNA Fragmentation Index in male partners from infertile couples at Halim Fertility Center’s Stella Maris Mother’s and Children’s Hospital. This study was an observational study with a cross-sectional design among 40 male partners from infertile couples at Halim Fertility Center’s Stella Maris Mother’s and Children’s Hospital selected by convenience sampling. This study showed a positive, very strong correlation between Body Mass Index and DNA Fragmentation index (P-value < 0.05; R Squared = 0.998). Half of the male couples as samples had a body mass index value between 19.50 to 28.33 kg/m 2 and DNA fragmentation index of 2.00 to 11.50%, while the remaining half showed a body mass index value of greater than 28.33 to 34.72 kg/m2 and DNA fragmentation index between greater than 11.5 to 44.00%. Thus, it can be concluded that body mass index affects the DNA Fragmentation Index value in the infertile couple." @default.
