- W3200504546 abstract "Tracking and monitoring of human physical activities using wearable devices has become popular for evaluating and quantifying various parameters such as vital functions, performance, and progress in activity for overall wellbeing. Applications, such as rehabilitation, physiotherapy, gait analysis, daily activity assessment, progress of activity movement and general activity monitoring require qualitative analysis through wearable sensors/devices to provide relevant information to individuals. UWB technology has proven to be a very suitable technology for wearable and body-centric communication due to its large bandwidth, simple trans-receiver architecture, compact antennas, low power, and low-cost devices. This chapter presents UWB technology for monitoring and assessing various physical activities which would aid in identifying abnormalities in movement disorders, range-of-motion monitoring during limb movement and detailed analysis of various activities. The work considers the fine time resolution of the UWB signal which aids in capturing the fine variations in movement of the human subject through channel information and time of arrival ranging techniques. Apart from monitoring and assessment, UWB wearable technology can be used for classification of various daily activities or gait movement of several human subjects through various signal processing methodologies and machine learning algorithms. This detailed information can be used to evaluate general health and fitness of an individual, provide treatment plans for the issues detected and pass on information to the doctor and relatives." @default.
