- W3200697887 abstract "Natural fibres are considered as a credible substitute to synthetic fibres in composite world because of their advantages like biodegradability, availability and eco-friendly behavior. The lesser density of natural fibres compared to carbon fibre and glass fibre results in production of composites which is lighter compared to synthetic fibre composites. However, the major reason for their limited potential in finding wider application is the hydrophilic nature of natural fibres because of high content of cellulose and hemicellulose and due to its poor flame retardancy. The literature review is done to explore different ways to overcome this drawback to utilize it in composite fabrication which can be used in different applications replacing synthetic fibre composites. Researchers have incorporated certain additives like coupling agents, plasticizers, fillers, flame retardants during composite fabrication which showed better mechanical properties of the composites. Thus, natural fibres can be a promising material in the composite field resulting in development of sustainable green product benefiting the environment." @default.
