- W3200804975 abstract "Emerging contaminants (ECs) also know as emerging organic contaminants (EOCs) and contaminants of emerging concerns (CECS). They consist of pharmaceuticals, pesticides, antibiotics and biocides, surfactant, personal care products, nanomaterials, etc. that are continuously being found in ground water, surface water, municipal water, drinking water and food sources. Endocrine disrupting activity and other toxic mechanism are known to be caused by ECs, some are also recognized as known carcinogens. Nano particles are used to remove these pollutants and these are called as new generation nanoabsorbents. This paper provides an overview of the different classes of emerging substances of concern, their impacts and removal by nanofiltration and reverse osmosis. Reverse osmosis and nanofiltration were recognized in order to determine their applicability for the removal of emerging contaminants." @default.
