- W3201716306 abstract "Owing to the complexity of shapes and slender elements of the sections, the behavior and design of light gauge steel (LGS) structural members are complex. Due to compressive stresses, the elements of the member may undergo local buckling, crippling in addition to yielding type of failure. Interaction among these and overall buckling is also possible. This chapter discusses the behavior, analysis, and design of LGS members based on the current state-of-the-art and international codes of practice. The buckling modes such as global (flexural, torsional, and flexural-torsional), local, and distortional and their interaction in evaluating the strength of LGS member subjected to compression and bending are discussed. The design methods such as the effective width method, the direct strength method (DSM), and modifications suggested to DSM by various researchers are summarized. The recent developments regarding the behavior and design of columns, beams, beam-columns are discussed in detail. The types of different types of fasteners and connections used in light gauge construction and their design are also discussed." @default.
