- W3202069764 abstract "Renewable resource, due to its eco-friendly nature and applicability, is a key area of research for generating energy. Nevertheless, currently, the conventional resources such as fossil fuel, petroleum-based oil, natural gas, and coal are majorly utilized for energy. The significant growth of 2.3% was observed in 2018 in terms of energy utilization. This has resulted in persistent growth in emissions, and is also putting strain on all facets of energy security. Albeit knowing this vicious fact, a technological transition from non-renewable sources to renewable sources is vaguely evident in the world. The major problems behind this are cost and availability. The non-conventional energy resources such as wind, solar, or hydropower plants are not consistently available everywhere when needed, and hence, lead to intermittent electricity generation. Smart grids are the potent solution for the challenges faced during the integration of renewable energy, and therefore, provide numerous other advantages such as reduced emission and cost of the energy generated. However, due to complexities, collection of high volume of information, and uncertainty with the smart grid, artificial intelligence (AI) methods are essential for planning and optimization, firm control on elements of power system, processing of all data, and coordination through the grid. Advanced computational techniques are inevitable across each level of the grid (generation, transmission, and distribution) for future development and success of smart grid. AI could be employed for smartening the whole electric grid with integration of renewables by controlling the transient stability, day-ahead energy management, and investment planning. The chapter emphasizes the use of renewable energy by employing smart grids in a smart and efficient way. Moreover, it also elucidates the potential of AI and its various techniques in operation and control of smart grid." @default.
