• W3202076343 abstract "INTRODUCTION:Orthodontic brackets are the important part of fixed appliances which are temporarily attached to teeth during the course of orthodontic treatment. In preadjusted edgewise brackets threedimensional tooth movements are engineered within the brackets and are expressed by interaction between the arch wires and brackets. Any dimensional inaccuracy in pre-adjusted bracket slot sizes has severe implications for the final occlusal outcomes. Torque expression depends on numerous factors such as bracket material, slot size, arch wire material, arch wire size. Irregularity in tooth morphology, errors in bracket placement and beveling of arch wires also affect torque expression. The dimensional accuracy of these products has been studied by various authors but none had compared the slot precision of same manufacturers different products.AIMS AND OBJECTIVES: To evaluate and compare the dimensional accuracy of conventional metal and ceramic bracket slot size among three different manufacturers.1. To Evaluate and Compare the dimensional accuracy of conventional metal brackets with ceramic brackets slot size of same manufacturer using profile projector.2. To Evaluate and compare the dimensional accuracy of metal bracket slot size among the three manufacturers.3. To Evaluate and compare the dimensional accuracy of ceramic bracket slot size among the three manufacturers.4. To compare the measured slot dimensions of the metal and ceramic brackets of the three manufacturers with the standard slot dimensions.MATERIALS AND METHODS:90 Upper right central incisor MBT 0.022” slot brackets of three commercially available manufacturers 3M, AO, Dentaurum were taken for the study. The sample includes 2 groups: Group A (metal) and Group B (ceramic). The metal brackets and ceramic brackets were divided to 6 sub groups consisting of 15 brackets in each sub-group. The sub groups were A1 – Victory series low profile (3M), A2-Low profile Mini master system (AO) and A3 -Discovery Smart (Dentauraum) brackets, B1 - clarity advanced (3M), B2 -Radiance plus (AO), B3 – Discovery pearl (Dentauraum) brackets. The brackets were pasted on a wax block and numberings were tagged. Each brackets slot was measured for its internal height and external height and depth using profile projector.STATISTICAL ANALYSIS:Descriptive statistics was used to assess the mean and standard deviation for the bracket slot dimensions. To assess the intergroup comparison between the 3 groups - Group 1(3M), Group 2 (AO), group 3 (Dentaurum), Mann Whitney test was performed. Kruskal Wallis test was carried out to relate the metal and ceramic brackets between three manufactures. Comparisons between standard slot dimensions and the measured slot dimensions, for each group was conducted using sample T test. The p value < 0.05 was considered as significance for the tests. CONCLUSION:The metal and ceramic brackets of same manufacturer showed dimensional variation. The Dentaurum showed highest dimensional change and was least in AO. Among metal brackets, there were variation between the 3 groups. The ceramic brackets of 3 groups showed significant variation. The AO bracket slot dimensions were closer to the prescribed MBT slot dimensions (0.558 x 0.711 mm) followed by 3M and Dentaurum." @default.
