• W3202876468 abstract "We measure output-price transparency using staggered disclosures of granular producer price indices by the Bureau of Labor of Statistics (BLS). The measure delineates the extent to which both insiders and outsiders of a firm observe price changes made by producers from neighboring sectors at the granular level. To address endogeneity, we exploit an exogenous coverage expansion by the Office of Publications at the BLS. Transparency mitigates information asymmetry between sticky-price firms and investors in the capital market. Transparency also leads sticky-price firms to respond more to aggregate cost shocks, which reduces their exposure to systematic risks. We perform textual analysis on transcripts of earnings conference calls and find managers of sticky-price firms have less private signals about their companies' future input costs." @default.
