- W3202945766 abstract "2533 Objectives Warming patients by changing the ambient environment (rather than core temperature) has been reported to successfully reduce BAT activity, however, a reduction of cardiac uptake of FDG has been incidentally noted [1]. This research aimed to examine the impact of ambient temperature on cardiac uptake of FDG. Methods Consecutive FDG PET patients were recruited into summer and winter cohorts. Data was excluded where the time post injection that the patient was scanned varied from 60 minutes. Mean and maximum counts per pixels in the cardiac region, heart to liver ratio, and the standard uptake value (SUV) for the heart were determined and correlated with the daily temperature (day of scan), mean temperature on the scan day and preceding 2 days, and the mean temperature 1 week, 2 weeks, 3 weeks and 4 weeks prior to scanning. Results No statistically significant differences were noted between cohorts (summer and winter) for age, gender, weight, height or dose. The mean and maximum heart counts were statistically higher in winter than summer (P=0.0306 and P=0.0239 respectively). No statistically significant difference was noted for mean and maximum liver counts between winter and summer (P=0.4954 and P=9787 respectively). The mean and maximum heart to liver ratio were statistically higher in winter than summer (P=0.0269 and P=0.0183 respectively). The cardiac SUV was statistically higher for winter than summer (P=0.0256). The key factors in cardiac accumulation of FDG are the daily minimum temperature on the day of the scan and the 3 day mean temperature (Table 1). Conclusions Cardiac accumulation of FDG is influenced by the ambient temperature, in particular the minimum temperature on the day of the scan and the 3 day average temperature prior to the scan. Further investigation is warranted to examine the impact of this observation on clinical protocols and seasonal variations in cardiac event rates." @default.
