- W3204013282 abstract "Hydrogen proton exchange membrane water electrolyzers (PEMWEs) and fuel cells (PEMFCs) are critical to the development of a carbon-neutral energy infrastructure. PEMWEs can readily convert intermittent renewable electricity to hydrogen which can then be used either as a chemical feedstock or as a fuel to produce electricity in PEMFCs. PEMWEs and PEMFCs require the use of porous electrodes in order to catalyze the electrochemical reactions that produce hydrogen and electricity, respectively. These electrodes are usually composed of a porous transport layer and a catalyst layer. This contribution describes their composition, macro- and micro-structure, and the most important requirements for each one of these layers, including the estimated values for the most relevant transport parameters, i.e., gas and permeability, gas diffusivity, and electron, proton and heat conductivity." @default.
