- W3204017307 abstract "Hepcidin is a vital effector molecule in the innate immune reaction. In infected O. niloticus organs with Aeromonas hydrophila (Ah), and Pseudomonas fluorescens (Pf), hepcidin gene expression and liver function and structure were investigated in the studied groups of fish. Each group was subdivided based on therapeutic additives; Nigella sativa oil (NSO) and ciprofloxacin (CFX). Histological findings of the liver damage matched the serum AST and ALT levels that significantly increased with the infection while decreased with the treatment by NSO and CFX. NSO led to increased hepcidin expression levels in the liver and brain of the Ah group while the expression was increased in the kidney, muscle, and ovary of the Pf group. Ciprofloxacin led to a significant up-regulation of hepcidin expression in the liver, kidney, pituitary, and ovary of the Ah group and the liver, muscle, and brain of the Pf group. The combination of NSO and CFX reflected a high expression of hepcidin in some groups. A high positive correlation was observed among the liver, brain, pituitary, and testis based on hepcidin expression levels. The study showed a coordinated immune mechanism among fish organs based on hepcidin expression levels." @default.
