• W3204137775 abstract "Motivated by the ongoing debate regarding weather effect on stock trading, this paper attempts to determine the existence of such effect in Chinese stock market. We exploit daily as well as weekly stock trading data of Shanghai and Shenzhen stock exchange market, and include three particular weather variables: the sky coverage index, the human comfort index and the adjusted daylight index in our research. The empirical results show that none of these weather variables has a strong impact on stock returns. However a robust and significant correlation is found between trading volume of A-shares and the human comfort index. Furthermore, evidence shows that trading volume of B-shares became significantly related to the human comfort index after domestic investors were allowed to enter the B-share market. This effect remains after controlling for other weather variables and using a weekly sample, indicating that people trade more frequently under higher heat stress." @default.
