- W3204178366 abstract "Approximately 2 billion people suffer from one or more micronutrient deficiencies today. Transdisciplinary strategies are needed to provide micronutrients such as vitamin A, iron, and zinc. Biofortification of crops is an alternative solution to alleviate the burden of malnutrition. New plant-breeding technologies, including the development of genome-edited and genetically modified crops, are one cost-effective solution to alleviating food insecurity, particularly as a result of climate change. Here we discuss the crop-breeding techniques being used today to address malnutrition, using several examples. We also address the future challenges that must be confronted to ensure that the introduction of biofortified crops as a solution to global food insecurity can carry through to its full potential." @default.
