- W3204204865 abstract "This paper proposed a two-dimensional (2D) and transient lithium-oxygen (Li-O2) battery model, which emphasizes the dominant role of O2 transfer in the electrolyte on battery discharge performance. The discharge performance of the Li-O2 batteries with various electrolytes at different O2 pressures and current densities is predicted. It is found that the poor discharge performance of the batteries with lithium bis(trifluoromethane)sulfonimide (LiTFSI) in tetraethylene glycol dimethyl ether (TEGDME) is due to the low O2 diffusivity of the electrolyte, and the battery discharge capacity decreases with the increase of LiTFSI concentration. The LiTFSI/dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) gives the batteries better discharge capacities due to the extremely high O2 diffusivity, despite the low O2 solubility. When using solvent DMSO, the battery discharge performance is not sensitive to LiTFSI concentrations but decreases remarkably with the increase of the salt concentration when LiTFSI is replaced by lithium perchlorate (LiClO4). In addition, the discharge capacity and rate capability of the batteries with LiTFSI/TEGDME and LiTFSI/DMSO are substantially enhanced at high temperatures due to the improved O2 diffusivity. The discharge performance of the batteries with ionic liquid electrolyte LiTFSI/MPPY-TFSI is improved more significantly with the temperature rising, on account of the much lower O2 diffusivity in LiTFSI/MPPY-TFSI at room temperature. The advantage of a wide operating temperature range for ionic liquids can promote it to maintain considerable discharge capacity at high current densities under ultra-high temperatures." @default.
