- W3204221716 abstract "Coherent light sources with short pulse width have been essential tools for searching new material properties in solids. Especially, resonant coherent excitation of electronic states in solids is of great importance in understanding the phase relaxation process. Since a typical phase relaxation process occurs in tens to hundreds femtosecond region, terahertz (THz) or mid-infrared (MIR) coherent control is a promising method to explore new material control scheme with light. In addition, recent development of femtosecond mid-infrared laser enables us to drive a solid material with the strong AC electric field as large as 10 MV/cm without damage. This has been promoting extreme nonlinear optics in solids extensively, where light-matter interaction energy (or Rabi frequency) becomes comparable with the scale of electronic transition energy [1] . Higher-order harmonic generation (HHG) is a typical extreme nonlinear optics in solids [2] , [3] , [4] . This has opened a new platform for investigating the ultrafast electron dynamics in the multi-terahertz region, because it clearly reflects the electron motion driven by the intense sub-cycle laser fields." @default.
