The wettability of textile surfaces chiefly depends on surface characteristics. A number of scientists have reported different contact angle estimation theories and their application to quantify the surface energy of various textile surfaces. This chapter will provide the requisite information regarding the wetting of surfaces and its measurement by contact angle theory. The concept of advancing and receding contact angles and contact angle hysteresis are of prime necessity to decide the wettability and capillarity phenomena. The most important concepts of contact angle measurement are included in this chapter. Surface free energy is the key parameter to define surface characteristics. The easiest way to estimate surface free energy is to measure surface tension using the sessile drop method. Different contact angle measuring equipment designed by various manufacturers are also discussed briefly to provide instrumental concepts to the readers. There are different concepts to measure the surface free energy by contact angle measurement routes. Contact angle is the angle formed at the interface where air, solid, and water interact, and its magnitude quantifies the nature of the surface to be wetted by water." @default.
