This study aimed to assess the synergistic effect of anthocyanins and gingerols extracted from berry fruits and ginger, respectively, on the inhibition of cancer cell growth. Strong synergism between anthocyanin and gingerol extracts was observed against the growth of Caco-2 and Hep G2 cells at inhibition levels of ≥80%, as reflected by the low combination index (CI) values of 0.3–0.7. In addition, dose reduction index (DRI) values of 1.1–3-fold for anthocyanin and 2.2–103-fold for gingerol extracts were observed. This research is the first to reveal the synergistic effects of anthocyanin and gingerol extracts in inhibiting the growth of cancer cells. Strong synergism levels at high growth inhibitory effects suggest that the anthocyanin–gingerol combination has high potency for the inhibition of cancer cell growth." @default.
