- W3204516276 abstract "Writing in Latin at the end of the fourth century, Victricius of Rouen attempts something both novel and controversial, namely, a theological explanation of the power of the relics of Christian saints. His homiletic panegyric, titled In Praise of Saints, equates relics with the bodies of martyred saints, understood to be capable of endless multiplication and dissemination. Thus, what seems to be a mere part reveals a plenitude: the saintly body is both less and more than whole, replicating itself through division. Both localized and mobile, the relic as plenitudinous fragment displays a radically distributed, more-than-human bodily agency. It also casts light back on the porosity and violability of the living bodies of martyrs and indeed all humans. The whole, bounded body is an illusion." @default.
