- W3204934175 abstract "Plants are highly vulnerable to abiotic stresses, specifically water stress or, strictly speaking, water-deficit stress, which is often referred to as drought stress, which severely decreases plant growth, development, and more importantly yield. So, it is highly desirable to understand drought tolerance mechanisms in plants and consequently enhance the tolerance against it. In this regard, numerous approaches are under consideration including the use of nitric oxide (NO). It is an important signaling molecule that is involved in numerous physiological processes of plants, including seed germination, plant growth, development, flowering, and abiotic stresses. Studies indicated that the accumulation of NO in plants has a positive correlation with drought tolerance. NO alleviates drought stress in plants via regulating stomatal movement, improving antioxidant system, root growth, and drought-related phytohormonal pathways. Exogenous application of NO has also been proven fruitful for mitigating the effects of drought stress. The present study discloses the role of NO in plants under drought stress." @default.
