- W3206218384 abstract "This chapter looks at useful alkaloids derived from plants against some chronic diseases. Alkaloids are derived from plants, animals, and some are produced by fungi and ergot. The use of herbal alkaloids, those derived from plants, has significantly contributed to healthcare and natural product research. The healthcare benefits of herbal alkaloids are constantly evolving due to improvements in isolation, characterization, purification and quantification techniques. A bio-activity-guided assay approach coupled within silico molecular docking studies have been identified as key steps when identifying alkaloids with specific pharmaceutical relevance. In silico molecular docking is a computational procedure of searching and scoring for an appropriate ligand-protein interaction that fits both energetically and geometrically on the protein’s binding site. Understanding how all these key components interact with one another can put herbal alkaloids at the center when combating chronic diseases such as cancer, diabetes, obesity, hypertension, tuberculosis, and cardiovascular complications." @default.
