- W3206962458 abstract "To correlate the results of prenatal ultrasounds, performed in pregnant women infected with Zika virus without knowledge of the fetal status, and the likelihood of these fetuses having congenital Zika virus infection, adverse perinatal outcomes and long-term sequelae up to three years of life. Targeted prenatal ultrasounds were performed in all pregnant women infected with Zika virus during the 2016 epidemic in western French Guiana. The status of their fetus was defined by an amniocentesis if prenatal ultrasound was suggestive of congenital Zika syndrome, or after birth for those without brain anomalies identified. Congenital Zika infection was defined by either positive IgM or positive RT-PCR in fetal or placental samples. Adverse perinatal outcomes were defined as fetal loss, neonatal death and postnatal/postmortem confirmation of congenital Zika syndrome. Long-term sequelae were defined as neurologic or neurosensory impairments, delay in motor acquisitions, or neuro-development <-2SD at three years of life. Among 291 fetuses from Zika-infected mothers, 76 (26.1%) had a laboratory confirmed congenital Zika infection at birth, of which 19 (25.0%) presented perinatal adverse outcomes. Among infected children followed at the pediatric clinic of our centre, 8/17 (47.1%) presented long-term sequelae. Prenatal ultrasound identified extra-cerebral anomalies in 39.5% (30/76) of infected fetuses, in 78.9% (15/19) of those presenting perinatal adverse outcomes and in 62.5% (5/8) of those presenting long-term sequelae. Dedicated prenatal neurosonography identified structural brain anomalies in 17.1% (13/76) of infected fetuses, in 68% (13/19) of those presenting perinatal adverse outcomes and in 62.5% (5/8) of those presenting long-term sequelae. Although targeted prenatal ultrasound is appropriate for the diagnosis of Congenital Zika Syndrome, it appears to be limited in predicting other adverse perinatal outcomes (IUFD) and long-term sequelae associated with congenital Zika infections." @default.
