- W3207103357 abstract "Most of the economically important traits in crop plants, such as grain size and yield, are quantitative. Methods for studying the genetics of these traits in plants involve a combination of modern molecular techniques and powerful statistical methods. These methods have gradually evolved over the past several decades as the availability of new resources, such as polymerase chain reaction-based markers, increased. However, recent advances in genotyping technologies and genomic tools such as high-throughput single nucleotide polymorphism markersSimple sequence repeat (SSR) and ease in the development of mapping populations such as doubled haploidsDoubled haploids (DHs) have brought not only an ever-increasing interest in QTL mapping studies but also some challenges. Most of the computational tools that revolutionized the field of QTL mapping in the late twentieth and early twenty-first centuries are now proved ineffective. The emergence of open-source bioinformatics tools, like statistical language R, has enabled the handling of large genotyping and phenotyping datasets easy and efficient. In this chapter, we discussed a historic prospective and basics of QTL mapping and described a step-by-step protocol of composite interval mapping with emphasis on the use of open-source platforms." @default.
